Pomegranate Extract

Pomegranate extract is rich in ellagitannins, a specific type of tannins found in certain fruits, berries and nuts.

The most prominent ellagitannins in pomegranate are punicalagins, which are commonly used to assess extract quality. The pomegranate extract in Innagia contains a high level of punicalagins, reflecting its carefully sourced and standardized composition.

  • Pomegranate extract

Pomegranate extract is derived from extraction of pomace, i.e. the leftover from
pomegranate juice production containing peel, seeds and the residual pulp.

    It contains ellagitannins, including punicalagins.

Scientific studies are examining how these compounds interact with gut microbes and the beneficial compounds they produce.

  • Punicalagins

Punicalagins are ellagitannins found in pomegranate juice and peel.

In the gut, they are metabolized to ellagic acid and further to urolithins, a topic of ongoing research investigating microbial metabolism and interactions.

  • Urolithin A

Urolithin A is produced by gut microbes from pomegranate ellagitannins.

Research is exploring how gut microbial composition influences its production and its interactions with cellular processes such as mitophagy, the natural recycling of mitochondria.
